Best Brazilian students targeted by Australian universities

BRAZILIAN students are being targeted by a group of Australia’s leading universities as the South American region becomes increasingly important to the university sector.
The Group of Eight delegation, which represents the University of Adelaide, hope to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian government next week to ensure the best and brightest Brazilian students choose to study in Australia.
The follows a report in The Advertiser that more students from South America were choosing to study in Adelaide.
Go8 communications director Kerrie Thornton said the meetings next week would focus on Brazil’s $2 billion science without borders program.
The money for the program would provide 100,000 Brazilian students with a scholarship to study at the world’s best universities.
“We want to attract Brazil’s top students,” Ms Thornton said.
Go8 executive director Michael Gallagher said there was considerable interest in double degrees, student exchange and research collaborations.
